Victorinox
Swiss Army Watches
The famous Swiss Army Knife has been around since 1891, produced originally by Victorinox exclusively and today also by Wenger (Victorinox bought Wenger in 2005). The name of the Victorinox company is formed from the name Victoria (the company founder's mother) combined with the French word for "steel".The Swiss Army Watch is a more recent innovation. Victorinox owns the Swiss Army brand and the watches were launched in the US in 1989. Like the knives before them, the watches bear the famous cross and shield symbol.
Brand Appeal
The new watches proved very popular, possibly in part because of the existing consumer awareness of the Swiss Army brand name. This brand recognition has been estimated at over 90% in the US. Celebrity purchasers always help, and Victorinox claim Susan Sarandon and Robert Redford amongst their customers. The Swiss Army watch range contains many models of different sorts, however to the best of my knowledge none of them you can buy today include a thing for getting stones out of horses' hooves.
At the time of writing the only (physical) place where you can buy the entire Victorinox range of Swiss Army brand products - knives, watches, travel gear and apparel - is the Swiss Army Soho Store.
