Rado Watches
Rado is a Swiss watch company that was established in 1917 and is today part of the large Swatch Group. They are best known for the high-tech, modern materials used in the manufacture of their products, materials such as hard metals, ceramics and sapphire crystal. A classic example of this is the Rado Ceramica wrist watch range which is available to buy in a black or platinum look. For something with a little more 'bling' you can buy luxury models such as the diamond studded yellow or white gold Royal Dream or the eye-catching Blue Fascination.Rado's claim to fame in the history of horology is that in 1962 they produced the world's first scratchproof watch, the Diastar 1 with scratch proof case and sapphire crystal. The design remains popular and you can today still buy a variety of models in the Rado Original Diastar range.
Rado watches are available for the woman as well as the man, for example the Integral Chronograph Jubile (Jubilee) or Sintra watches.
This emphasis on high tech watch materials has remained Rado's most distinctive feature. Their designs are appropriately original and distinctive - they are sometimes described as "futuristic".
In 1996 Rado displayed the Vision 1 prototype which went one step further than sapphire cyrstal and used crushed diamond. Today you can buy the V10K range which feature sapphire crystal, diamond top and sides to the case and caoutchouc band.
Rado describe the V10K as the "hardest watch in the world". I certainly wouldn't pick a fight with one!
