The Tissot T-Touch

Tissot has always been known for horological innovation. In 2003 - to celebrate the company's 250th anniversary - they introduced the T-Touch touch sensitive watch. This will gladden the heart of any gadget lover and might even persuade an ardent horological traditionalist to finally buy an electronic watch!.

The main feature of the T-Touch range is that they have a touch sensitive screen that can be used to access a variety of functions. Tissot describe this as "tactile technology". The watches aren't purely touch driven - that could result in accidental activation of the funtions - instead they also have one or more buttons, pressing which activates the touch sensitive screen.

One possible drawback to touch-screen is, of course, fingerprints. Some people have suggested using the screen protectors designed for PDAs. I don't know how safe this is - please consult your Tissot dealer.

At the time of writing the following models are available to buy:

T-Touch
The original model, this features six different functions - altimeter, chronograph, compass, alarm, thermometer and barometer - as well as date and time.

T-Touch Classic
This model is designed to look more like a classic gentleman's watch design whilst retaining the same six tactile functions of the original.

T-Navigator 3000
Designed for the traveller, this model allows the owner to view the time in 150 cities or countries.

Silen-T
This model is a brilliant idea for those who need to know the time discreetly - it can provide the time through "silent vibration". If I was to buy a T-Touch, the Silen-T would be my choice.

High-T
This ultra high tech model is currently only available in the US and Canada. It integrates with MSN Direct services. For this watch Tissot have abandoned all sense of traditional styling and produced a screen that reminds me more than anything of a first generation video game. To be honest I'm not upset that it's not available for sale here in the UK!
