Frank Lloyd Wright Clocks
Frank Lloyd Wright was one of the world's best known architects - not a clockmaker. He'd probably be rather surprised to be included on this site. The reason he's here is that his classic designs have inspired a range of timepieces produced by Bulova.
Biography
Frank Lloyd Wright was born in 1867 in Wisconsin and lived until 1959. After studying engineering at the University of Wisconsin he began his life as an architect, initially designing residential buildings in Chicago, Illinois. In 1893 he set up his own architectural firm.As well as the many individual buildings he designed, Frank Lloyd Wright put a lot of time and energy into developing his Broadacre City concept. This utopian vision of the future was a highly planned version of suburbia. Broadacre City has been praised by many but criticised by some for its concentration on the car as the main form of transport at the expense of pedestrian access and public transit systems.
During his lifetime Frank Lloyd Wright created over 500 buildings. These were mainly in America but some were as far afield as England and Japan.
Clocks
Many people like to buy Frank Lloyd Wright merchandise for themselves or as gifts for others. The range of official products includes timepieces from Bulova. The Bulova range is produced in association with the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust. This consists of a selection of wall, table, mantle and free standing clocks inspired by Wright's designs.
The range also includes one watch, the Frank Lloyd Wright Willits watch based on the Ward W. Willits House window.
