Gucci

Since the advent of quartz, an accurate wrist watch has been affordable by anyone. So today people buy high-end brands for other reasons: because they love the technology, as a fashion statement, as a status symbol or simply where they like the design. Gucci is among the market leaders in luxury fashion watches for both man and lady.

Gucci watches are known for both their quality and their beauty.

History

Gucci was founded in the early 20th century by Guccio Gucci and was built upon a basis of quality. Guccio's business began as a saddlery and leather goods store known for employing the best craftsmen. The first Gucci retail store opened on Rome's Via Condotti in 1938. New York followed in 1953 and a London store in 1961. The company headquarters today is located in Amsterdam and the administrative centre in London.

Gucci entered the watch market in 1972 as a result of a collaboration with the Swiss company Severin Montres. One of the earliest Gucci branded watches was a bangle watch with interchangeable dials in different colours.

In 1997 Gucci purchased Severin Montres and renamed it Gucci Timepieces. In 2002 this became the Gucci Watch Group, overseeing the luxury watch business of the Gucci, Boucheron, Yves Saint Laurent and Bedat & Co. brands.

Gucci watches today are recognised for their blend of style, elegance and quality.

Bedat

Of particular note is the Bedat brand - Gucci owns around 85% of the Swiss watchmaker Bedat & Co. This company was founded in 1996 by Simone and Christian Bedat and produces luxury fashion watches. Their elegant ranges are identified simply by numbers - at the time of writing you can buy Nos 1, 3, 7 and 8.
