The Blancpain Watch

The Swiss watchmaker Blancpain was established in 1735 by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain and is a luxury prestige brand. They proudly boast:

"Since 1735, there has never been a quartz Blancpain watch. And there never will be."

Blancpain has always been interested in holorological expertise and innovation. Technical firsts have included the smallest minute repeater wristwatch, the world's slimmest chronograph and the first self-winding tourbillon watch with one-week power reserve.

Today (Jan 2006) Blancpain is part of the Swatch group.

Designs

The company's best known watch is probably the 1735. This takes almost a year to produce and contains 740 parts that implement six complications: ultra-slim movement, moon phase calendar, perpetual calendar, split-seconds chronograph, tourbillon and minute repeater.

Another classic Blancpain watch is the Fifty Fathoms. This rugged underwater dive watch with its rotating bezel was created in the 1950s for the French Ministry of Defence. Today you can buy a number of modern versions of this classic design.
