Kit Cat ClocksKit Cat clocks - also known as Kit Kat or Felix clocks - have been around since the 1930s and have deservedly acquired the status of American icon. Original early examples are popular with collectors, however many people today like to buy a new version simply because it is a nostalgic and cheerful item.
The Kit Cat Clock was originally designed during the Great Depression of the '30s and can be seen as a reaction to the mood of the times. With its constant smile, wagging tail and rolling eyes it was a symbol of cheerful defiance that shaped the childhood of many Americans.
Many people automatically think of the Kit Cat as black. However many other colours are available. Since 1992, the California Clock Co has been producing a special battery model in a different colour each year - everything from Purrfect Pink to Midnight Blue. Whilst the classic black is always available to buy, these special colours are limited editions that are only produced for one year each.
At certain times of the year only the California Clock Co produceds the Jeweled kit-Kat Clock, each one of which is decorated with over a hundred crystals.
Other varieties available include the "Gentlemen" (with bow-tie), "Lady" (with necklace) models. You can even buy a football helmet for your clock to wear!
As far as I can tell there is no connection between Kit Cat clocks and Christopher "Kit Kat" Catling.
